CORPORATE ADVISORY COUNCIL

For years, Congreso has been building relationships with local businesses and corporations with a strong presence in Philadelphia to advance our mission of strengthening Latino communities.  During Fiscal Year 2007, Congreso took steps to move these relationships to the next level through the development of our Corporate Advisory Council (CAC).  The CAC provides a structured forum whereby Congreso and our corporate partners can build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.  The CAC will play a key role in the evolution of Congreso’s business plan in that these important corporations will provide input, advice, and support regarding the successful implementation of our strategy to transform lives through education and employment. Already these key relationships have generated creative initiatives between Congreso and corporations.

• Nationwide generously sponsored Congreso’s Careers in Insurance program. This 4 week training program helps transition participants into successful careers as Insurance Sales Agents. Representatives from Nationwide’s regional and local offices helped Congreso design the program and will actively play a role in the recruitment, assessment, execution and employment phases of the program. Those participants hired by Nationwide will earn a base salary of $9.00 per hour and receive commission for every insurance sale which often generates earnings at or above $40,000 annually for their entry level sales representatives.

• Wachovia provided funds to support an imprinting business that will be operated by youth from Congreso’s E3 Center.  The E3 Center provides at-risk youth with the fundamental workforce and educational skills needed to succeed in the workplace. With Wachovia’s generous contribution, Congreso will be able to provide youth with critical employment and educational skills.
