Bread & Roses Community Fund Offers Support for Social Justice Projects in the Delaware Valley
Bread & Roses is accepting applications for the following fund categories:Racial and Economic Justice (breadrosesfund.org). Grants range from $5,000 to $10,000 each. Organizations must meet the following criteria to be eligible: be located in the Delaware Valley, which includes five Pennsylvania counties (Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery) as well as Camden County, New Jersey; have an organizational and/or distinct project budget that is less than $150,000; and be tax-exempt, have a fiscal sponsor that is tax-exempt, or have a pending 501(c)(3) application. OpenGate Consulting, a Philadelphia-area business consulting firm, has announced a $20,000 service grant opportunity for local nonprofit organizations.
OpenGate Service Grants are in the form of free business and technical consulting for the 2008 calendar year. The grant program is designed to build marketing and information technology to help make local nonprofit organizations stronger and more effective.
OpenGate will help with projects such as: developing a marketing strategy and plan; planning technology infrastructure; building a Content Management System for the Web; measuring organizational impact; and implementing a Customer Relationship Management System. Highmark Foundation Announces School Challenge Program.
$1 million in total grants on a rolling basis in 2008 through the Highmark Healthy High 5 School Challenge grant program. This is a grant program designed to support schools in the effort to introduce programs that will ultimately create healthier, more successful students. United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania Offers Grants to Strengthen Nonprofit Community Agencies.
Up to $10,000 to fund agencies' efforts to build their capacity to achieve and sustain high levels of quality in their work. Grants will also be available to agencies for one-time emergency expenses such as a broken furnace or an unanticipated, temporary upsurge in clients seeking services. Impact Fund Offers Support for Public Interest Litigation (including immigration issues).
The average grant size is $10,000 to $15,000. The maximum grant amount awarded to any single applicant per year is $25,000. The fund is particularly interested in receiving applications addressing systemic deprivations of constitutional or statutory rights in the following areas: Post 9/11 cases involving denial of rights under the guise of "Homeland Security;" Criminal Justice and Immigration; and Education Access and Equity.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Invites Research Proposals on Disparities Issues.
The foundation will consider projects of up to $75,000 with a one-year time frame that address one or more of the following issues: 1) quality of care provided by hospitals, physicians, and community clinics 2) health information technology 3) differences in quality of care for Hispanic/Latino, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and other sub-ethnic groups.
