Latinos and Employment in Philadelphia:

According to the 2005 American Community Survey, 47% of Latino/Hispanic children in the city of Philadelphia aged 17 and younger lives below the poverty level. 35% of ALL children (17 and younger) in Philadelphia are living under the poverty level.

The median family income in 2004 of a Latino household in the city of Philadelphia was $21,460, and the median household income for an African American household was $25,358. These are both considerably lower than the median household income for all of Philadelphia which was $32,573 (2005 American Community Survey).

23.7% of Latino/Hispanic households made less than $10,000 in 2003, and 33% of Latino/Hispanic households made less than $15,000 in 2003 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2004 American Community Survey).

According to the 2005 American Community survey, it is estimated that 13,790 (31.8%) Hispanic or Latino households received food stamps in the previous 12 months. This is compared to a city-wide total of 88,135 household (15.5%) which received food stamps in the previous 12 months.

From the 1999 Current Population Survey, a total of 55.1% of Latinos in Philadelphia are either unemployed or not in the labor force (See " A Report on Latino Philadelphia").
