- CONGRESO AND COMMITTEE OF SEVENTY WILL OPERATE CITY’S ONLY SPANISH LANGUAGE CALL CENTER FOR PRIMARY 2008

Philadelphia, PA - During Pennsylvania’s primary elections on April 22, 2008, Congreso de Latinos Unidos will partner with the Committee of Seventy and the Lawyers’ Committee of Civil Rights Under Law to operate the city’s only bi-lingual call center where citizens can report problems encountered at the polls by calling 1-866-OUR-VOTE. Volunteers from Congreso will be on-hand to ensure that Spanish-speaking individuals can report any complaints during these important primary elections without confronting language barriers. - CONGRESO RECEIVES OVER $100,000 FROM THE PRUDENTIAL FOUNDATION AND THE COMCAST FOUNDATION AND THE ARAMARK CHARITABLE FUND

Philadelphia, PA - In the first quarter of 2008, three major Congreso supporters awarded over $100,000 in support of Congreso’s new strategy to transform lives through education and employment. The Prudential Foundation, the Comcast Foundation and the ARAMARK Charitable Fund at the Vanguard Charitable Endowment Program, all longtime supporters of Congreso’s education and employment services, expressed their confidence in Congreso’s new business plan with their financial support. The Gala Unites Latinos and Supporters of the Region’s Latino Community Congreso de Latinos Unidos (Congreso), Philadelphia’s leading non-profit organization that strengthens Latino communities, announced today that it will host Gala Latina: A Night in Acapulco, the organization’s second annual black tie gala. Guests will experience a bit of Mexican flair as they dine on cuisine, enjoy a performance by professional Latin dancers, tap their feet to a variety of Latin music, and show off their own Cumbia moves on the dance floor. - ON JANUARY 30th MORE THAN 200 PENNSYLVANIANS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE FIRST ANNUAL STATEWIDE LATINO ADVOCACY DAY IN HARRISBURG

More than 200 Pennsylvanians will visit their state legislators in Harrisburg on Wednesday, January 30th, for the first annual Statewide Latino Advocacy Day (SLAD). Latino leaders have joined together from all parts of the state and across political parties to call attention to two problems that adversely impact their communities: 1) lack of resources directed toward education in impoverished areas; and 2) increased ethnic tensions due to inflammatory anti-immigrant rhetoric and legislative proposals. - CONGRESO RECEIVES $20,000 FROM LINCOLN FINANCIAL FOUNDATION

Philadelphia, PA -- In 2007, Lincoln Financial Foundation awarded over $700,000 in human services grants to nonprofit agencies in Philadelphia. Congreso de Latinos Unidos (Congreso) was one of the organizations to receive a grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation to enhance service delivery. Congreso will utilize the $20,000 award to implement its Leadership Development Initiative, a skills training program for supervisors, managers and direct service staff. (Read More)

Philadelphia, PA - Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Inc. (Congreso) was honored to receive the Star Community Commitment to Education Eddy from the Philadelphia Education Fund on November 8, 2007. The Eddy Awards honor various organizations, individuals, and businesses that are committed to improving the quality of education in the Philadelphia region. Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Inc. (Congreso), the leading Latino community-based non-profit organization in Philadelphia, will receive the 2005 National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Affiliate of the Year Award. Each year, NCLR selects an affiliate among the more than 300 affiliates in 41 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia for this award, which is sponsored by Ford Motor Company. The recognition includes a $25,000 cash award, which will be presented to Congreso at the Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday July 19th at 7:30 p.m., during the NCLR Annual Conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. - USDA Food & Nutrition Service Administrator Roberto Salazar To Award Food Stamp Program Outreach Grant to Congreso de Latinos Unidos

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Administrator Roberto Salazar will award $125,000 to Congreso de Latinos Unidos for a community outreach initiative designed to increase access to the Food Stamp Program for the working poor, immigrants and seniors using innovative technologies, outreach, and education. The Latina Domestic Violence Program at Congreso de Latinos Unidos is hosting "A Moment of Silence" event to pay tribute to the pain and perseverance of those who are abused, and to honor those who have lost their lives to domestic violence.The Moment of Silence will be held to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month. - CONGRESO MARCHS TO COMMEMORATE THE SECOND ANNUAL NATIONAL LATINO AIDS AWARENESS DAY
October 12, 2004

Congreso de Latinos Unidos will march along with clients and partner agencies on October 15th at 12:00pm through North 5th Street (between Lehigh and Allegheny Avenues) in recognition of the rising infection rates among Latinos. According to the Latino Commission on AIDS, as of December 2002, there have been 163,940 cumulative Latino AIDS cases in the United States 31,889 female and 132,051 male, a substantial increase of 20,000 new AIDS cases with one year. - CONGRESO DE LATINOS UNIDOS SCHOLARSHIP FUND HELPS LATINO STUDENTS ATTEND COLLEGE
September 7, 2004

Five Latino high school students are able to attend college this fall with the assistance of a contribution of $20,000 to Congreso de Latinos Unidos, by an anonymous donor. Latinos in Philadelphia are reported to have a high school graduation rate of 53%, far below the national average of 71%. (Read More)


- CONGRESO DE LATINOS UNIDOS IS THE RECIPIENT OF A GRANT TO SUPPORT LATINO PREGNANT WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN NORTH PHILADELPHIA

congreso de Latinos Unidos is proud to announce a new grant awarded by the Children's Trust Fund of the Office of Children, Youth and Families at the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. The grant, in the amount of $56,100 for fiscal year - 2003-2004, supports Congreso's Un Buen Comienzo program (A Good Beginning). This program provides assistance to Latino women and children in North Philadelphia through a model of comprehensive and intensive early intervention services during pregnancy. (Read More)
