CONGRESO BOARD SELECTS ESPERANZA MARTINEZ NEU AS CHAIR

Another experienced female leader rises to steer Congreso

PHILADELPHIA – Furthering Congreso de Latinos Unidos’ (Congreso) mission to develop strong leaders, the agency’s Board of Directors announces the selection of Esperanza Martinez Neu as its new Chair. This announcement arrives just weeks after Congreso selected former Board Chair Carolina Cabrera DiGiorgio to be the agency’s President and CEO.

DiGiorgio begins her tenure February 6; she and Neu will further her vision of increasing the financial sustainability for Congreso, as well as improving the sophistication in how the organization thinks about its services and business model.

“I am eager to work with Carolina and the Board of Directors to lead Congreso through the next phase of its evolution,” stated Neu. “Congreso has grown into a national thought leader. Now we can harness its expert focus on the Latino community and forty years of experience to further our vision while developing the agency’s support within the community.”

Neu served on Congreso’s board for nine years and chaired the Individual Fundraising Committee. Before her recent retirement, Neu held several human resources and leadership positions during her 34 years at AmerisourceBergen Corporation, including Vice President of Community Relations, Diversity and Workplace Services and Executive Director of the AmerisourceBergen Foundation. Additionally, Neu co-founded the David and Esperanza Neu Charitable Foundation to support causes related to health and education and serves on the advisory board of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association.

Neu and DiGiorgio begin their partnership in time to host Congreso’s annual Gala Latina. The 2017 theme is Quito, Ecuador and is co-chaired by David and Rhonda Cohen. Honorary Chair Andrea Sáenz is a Congreso alumna who currently is the First Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Public Library. Congreso’s largest fundraising event is March 11 at the Hyatt Bellevue on 200 South Broad Street.
