CONGRESO CELEBRATES NATIONAL UNIDOSUS AWARD FOR HEALTH EQUITY DURING NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK

PHILADELPHIA, PA – In recognition of National Health Center Week, Congreso de Latinos Unidos celebrates receiving the 2023 Helen Rodriguez Trías Award from UnidosUS and offers patients additional programming and resources in North Philadelphia.

The Congreso Health Center received the national award at the UnidosUS Annual Conference Latina Luncheon in Chicago on July 23rd. Congreso, an UnidosUS affiliate, was selected in recognition of the work to address health equity in North Philadelphia and was also awarded a $20,000 cash prize.

The award was accepted by Congreso Interim CEO Jannette Diaz who shared, “We continue to listen, evolve, and innovate to better address patient needs including opening a pharmacy onsite in January of 2021 and developing a pilot system for screening and referrals. This pilot allowed us to screen around 600 patients for social service needs and resulted in a blueprint for a Congreso referral app that is ready for development.”

Congreso’s Federally Qualified Health Center was established in 2011 in partnership with Public Health Management Corporation, and annually serves approximately 3,500 patients regardless of documentation or insurance status. The team provides primary care, pediatrics, family planning, and behavioral health services resulting in over 11,000 visits with a holistic, bilingual and bicultural approach that specializes in serving Latino families.

Throughout National Health Center Week, the Congreso Health Center will be hosting resource tables and activations focused on mental health, mammogram screenings, inclusive research studies, social services for families and children and more. The week will culminate with an event on Friday, August 11th at noon to recognize the Health Center Team for the national award and their ongoing impactful work to serve the health and well-being needs of the Latino community in Philadelphia.
